8:00 pm - 10:00 pm

Have you ever wanted to go to a B'nai Mitzvah event as a college student? Now's your chance!

Join Jewish Student Union and Jewish Life at Duke for the biggest event of the semester: the 15th annual B'nai Mitzvah program!

Shabbat service, led by our four Duke students becoming B'nai Mitzvah, begin at 1pm in the sanctuary of the Freeman Center for Jewish Life, followed by light refreshments. That same evening, the celebration takes place from 8pm-10pm at the Freeman Center for Jewish Life as we celebrate the B'nai Mitzvah of four Duke students. Don't miss out on food, dancing, photobooth, giveaways, and more!

Jewish Life at Duke's B'nai Mitzvah program was the brainchild of a group of Jewish Student Union (JSU) members back in 2012, when the then 13-year-old Freeman Center was celebrating its own B'nai Mitzvah. What better way to mark the milestone than by offering the same opportunity to students who missed out on this meaningful rite of passage? Under the guidance of Rabbi Elana Friedman, B'nai Mitzvah students learn their Torah portion and study Jewish texts. Parents, grandparents, and siblings come from all over to witness the ceremony at the Freeman Center, where they are joined by a friends from across campus. That evening, after the ceremony, the JSU throws a themed party at the Freeman Center. The B'nai Mitzvah Program is made possible through the generosity of the Freeman Family Program Fund.

All are welcome, regardless of religious affiliation.
