Musical Theater Audition Workshops: "Rent" by Jonathan Larson
Are you interested in auditioning for the Department of Theater Studies Spring Mainstage production of "Rent," co-produced by Hoof 'n' Horn -- but not quite sure how? Fear not! You are welcome to take part in one or all of four upcoming workshops about this groundbreaking show by Jonathan Larson, marking its 30th anniversary in 2023.
Each workshop focuses on a different theme, such as acting and its history, the use of music in the theater, and movement, as well as their specific storytelling elements in "Rent." The last of the workshops will be an Open House. (Note that the first workshop will be held in our rehearsal studio at 127 Bryan Center. The other three are planned for Brody Theater in the Branson Building on East Campus.) Broadway actor and Professor of the Practice Chauntee' Schuler Irving will lead these workshops and direct the mainstage production in April 2023.
Auditions for the show will be held October 31 and November 1, with callbacks November 2. But why not take advantage of these fun and low-key workshops ahead of time? Details on the audition process are forthcoming on the Theater Studies website and Duke Events calendar.
