The Holy Week noon services include scripture reading, prayer, and a sermon. The guest preacher is the Rev. Theresa Bayless, senior clinical administrative chaplain at Duke Hospital. Rev. Bayless has a deep connection and a passion for caring for the human spirit. With a focus on staff care towards resiliency and decreasing workplace moral distress, she engages interdisciplinary teams in providing holistic care that encompasses the physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being of patients, families, and staff. Rev. Bayless' interests lie in how spiritual beliefs impact and intersect with complex medical decisions, and she is dedicated to companioning with families through tender end-of-life moments and navigating Advance Directives. As an adjunct member of the Ethics Committee, she provides valuable spiritual insight and guidance on challenging ethical dilemmas. With clinical and administrative oversight for Duke University Hospital's Heart Center and serving on the Adult Palliative Care Consult team, Rev. Bayless brings a wealth of experience to her role. She is a board-certified chaplain through the Association of Professional Chaplains (APC). Additionally, she is a candidate for Palliative Care and Hospice Advanced Certification through APC. Theresa earned her master of divinity from Duke University and her master of social Work from UNC-Chapel Hill and completed a residency in clinical pastoral education at Duke. Her extensive training, experience, and commitment to compassionate care, along with her dedication and expertise in her field, make Rev. Bayless an integral part of Duke University's healthcare team.
