David Benfield, Brightside Bamboo

From tall to small, running or clumping, bamboo is a particularly charismatic member of the grass family. This program will begin with a review of bamboo botany before a garden walk to see many of the different varieties growing at Duke Gardens. In this class with David Benfield, founder of Brightside Bamboo, you'll learn about practical uses of bamboo, native bamboo, indoor bamboo, and management considerations for growing bamboo in an outdoor garden setting. Meet in the classroom inside the Doris Duke Center. This will be a small group program that takes place partially seated indoors and partially outdoors traveling on a combination of paved and unpaved paths with some uneven surfaces and moderate inclines.
Fee: $22; 20% discount for Duke Gardens members with discount code. Registration is at https://rsvp.duke.edu/vrbobR . Parking fees apply ($2/hr.). gardens.duke.edu. Information: 919-668-1707, gardenseducation@duke.edu
