50th Anniversary of the Integration of Duke University Official Opening of The 1969 Allen Building Takeover Exhibit
Cost: Free
The exhibit will chronicle the build up to and occupation of the University's Central Records Office in the Allen Building by the Afro-American Society (AAS) in protest of the racial climate on campus in 1969. Housed in the very hallway the students walked through during the takeover, the exhibit will include re-printed historical photographs from the Duke University Archives and the Durham Morning Herald and The Durham Sun (which later merged, forming The Herald-Sun), prints of Duke Chronicle front-page headlines, participant interviews, and a multimedia component. Reception in the First Floor Hallway of the Allen Building will start at 3:30 pm. Please RSVP to sharon.caple@duke.edu
