Living (IT) While Black: The Side Bar

If you are a white person, race is an afterthought. It's there, but it's not what comes to mind first. Why should it?, you may ask. If you are black, there are hundreds of reasons why it's important to think about it. For all of us, whether you think about race all day, every day, or are reminded of race from time to time, the impact of racism exists. When you say 'hey' to that one colleague you always talk to, but never bring up race with, you may be doing harm. You could be missing or denying a critical part of what your black colleague experiences. If you're black, you deserve better.

Together we are supporting a culture of misinformation that is harming our black colleagues. Let's change that. Let's talk.

Each talk will be between one white and one black colleague. You are invited to learn from the public conversation - take notes, reflecting on your own experiences - and then participate in the follow-up discussion. Show your support to these colleagues, as well as to your immediate team, by asking questions and being genuinely inquisitive. Expose yourself to new ideas and receive encouragement by observing others. Sessions will not be recorded. Don't miss this opportunity!
