Do you want to learn to mark up texts? To make accurate, detailed transcriptions of primary source documents? To create your own edition of a text and publish it online? To encode the materials you're studying in ways that allow for sophisticated analysis? To share your texts with other researchers in a reliable, portable, widely adopted format? Or have you just heard about XML or TEI and are wondering what they can do for your scholarship? Then come to "Introduction to XML and Text Encoding"!
This workshop will introduce XML, a powerful language for marking up documents, focusing on the encoding scheme developed by the Text Encoding Initiative (TEI). You'll learn the basics of textual markup and get hands-on practice creating digital editions from primary sources. No prior experience with XML or TEI is required. By the end of the workshop, you'll have an idea how to get started on your own digital editing project, using the sophisticated resources the TEI makes available.
TEI encoding is the gold standard for digital textual markup in the humanities and social sciences. Join us on Friday to find out what it can do for you and your research.
