Join us for the closing reception of "Jamaican Mascs," an exhibition of documentary portraits and mixed-media collages that contest any singular representation of Jamaican masculinity.
Curated by Jazmin Maço, this exhibition takes up feminist Caribbean studies scholar Patricia Mohammed's challenge to "unmask masculinity" and reimagines "Jamaican Mascs" as more than sexualized, demonized or static objects of colonial history.
Maço is a gender queer Caribbean-American visual artist, curator and Ph.D. student in Art, Art History, and Visual Studies at Duke University.
Light refreshments will be served in the CDS Bridges Auditorium (B007), 1317 W. Pettigrew Street.
**Prints from "Jamaican Mascs" will be for sale, with 50% of the proceeds going to The Community Centre of Jamaica's fundraiser to support queer and trans healthcare services in Jamaica.**
