Duke University Wind Symphony: Overtures in October

The Duke Wind Symphony celebrates the season with Overtures in October, a program showcasing the brilliance and versatility of the concert overture. From the youthful energy of Mendelssohn's Overture for Winds in C Major to contemporary works by Óscar Navarro and Joseph Willcox Jenkins, the program highlights the overture's enduring ability to captivate audiences and tell compelling musical stories. These works are complemented by evocative reflections on the season from Julie Giroux and Eric Whitacre. Whitacre's October captures the warmth and nostalgia of autumn, while Giroux's Riften Wed offers a poignant meditation on love, commitment, and resilience in the face of uncertainty.

A highlight of the concert is the world premiere of a new work by Flavio Lamelle, adding a fresh chapter to the wind band repertoire.
