Experience the universe of the famous Benedictine nun, scientist, and composer Hildegard of Bingen through her own creations. Based on the texts, music, and images from her massive illuminated work "Scivias," the program guides viewers through the stages of creation from the book of Genesis and then depicts the "cosmic egg," Hildegard's geocentric model of the universe in which sun, moon, and stars revolve around the earth in a divinely ordered cosmos until the end of time, which comes when the model swells with light.
Co-sponsored by the Morehead Planetarium and Science Center, the Department of Religious Studies, and the Program in Medieval and Early Modern Studies at UNC, Chapel Hill, and the SPACE Initiative at Duke with support from Duke University's Constellations Program, the Departments of Art, Art History, and Visual Studies, German Studies, Medieval and Renaissance Studies, Religious Studies, and the John-Kelly C. Warren, Evelyn and Valfrid Palmer and Dennis and Rita Meyer Endowments.
