Clarinet Premieres: A Duke–UNCG Collaboration
Experience a night of groundbreaking new music as Duke University PhD composition students join forces with the University of North Carolina at Greensboro's clarinet studio for an unforgettable concert of world premieres.
This unique collaboration brings together the full spectrum of the clarinet family-E♭, B♭, alto, bass, contra-alto, and contrabass-performed by UNCG students under the direction of Dr. Catherine Hock and Dr. Luke Ellard. The clarinet choir's rich, resonant sound has been likened to a grand organ, offering an orchestral depth rarely heard in woodwind ensembles.
Presented by the Music Graduate Student Association and Erich Barganier, the program showcases bold new directions in woodwind repertoire and celebrates the culmination of a semester-long partnership between the two universities.
Featuring World Premiers By:
Jake Richter - Old Wooden Spoon
Ronja Mokranova - On the Waves of Sleeplessness
Erich Barganier - Threnody for Obsolete Technology
Tyler Jordan - Dark, Venal, Incurably Violent
Join us for a night of sonic exploration and creative synergy as these composers and performers redefine what a clarinet choir can be.
Free and open to the public. All are welcome.
