Anita Layton (University of Waterloo)

Anita Layton is the Canada 150 Research Chair in Mathematical Biology and Medicine at the University of Waterloo; Professor of Applied Mathematics, Pharmacy, and Biology; and Associate Dean of Research and International of the Faculty of Mathematics. She chairs the Research Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Council at Waterloo. Anita received her Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Toronto in 2001. Primarily, her lab collaborates with physiologists and clinicians to formulate detailed computational models of kidney function and metabolism. She is particularly interested in modeling sex differences in physiological systems, as well as the functional impacts of other individual differences. Anita's recent accolades include being the 2021 winner of the Krieger-Nelson Prize of the Canadian Mathematical Society, a 2021 winner of the Top 100 Most Powerful Women in Canada by the Women's Executive Network, a 2022 Fellow of the Association for Women in Mathematics, and a 2022 Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada.

It will take place on Friday, February 3rd at 5:15 pm in 153 Rubenstein Library. A flyer is attached and light refreshments provided.
