An Evening with Camille Dungy

Please join the John Hope Franklin Humanities Institute, Duke Arts, and the Sarah P. Duke Gardens for an evening with award-winning poet and memoirist Camille Dungy. Dungy will read and discuss her memoir Soil: The Story of a Black Mother's Garden. Book-signing and reception to follow. Co-sponsored by the Department of African and African American Studies and Department of English.

WRITING WORKSHOP FOR DUKE STUDENTS: Prior to the public talk, Dungy will lead a generative poetry workshop for Duke students (3 to 4:30pm). Sign up and see more info here.

EVENT LOCATION: The main talk will be held outdoors at the Angle Amphitheater at the Sarah P. Duke Gardens (420 Anderson St. , Durham). The Angle Amphitheater is D1 on the Duke Gardens map. Chairs will be provided and the top row of seating will have space reserved for wheeled mobility devices. The rain location is the Doris Duke Center, D4 on the map.

GETTING TO & PARKING AT DUKE GARDENS: Carpooling, bike riding and public transportation are encouraged. Learn about Campus Dr lot after 5 p.m., along Lewis St. just north of Duke Gardens, or at the Karsh Alumni Center to the south. Parking in the overflow lots is $2 per hour through the PayByPhone app or website. Please familiarize yourself with these location options before you arrive and be aware of the distance from these lots to the Gardens.
