HackDuke EDU Presents: Effective Altruism
Sponsor(s): Duke Innovation & Entrepreneurship Initiative
Description: Is your passion using technology to produce social good? Here's how! Our speakers for the event are juniors, Kevin (ECE/CS) and Mindy (ECE, Philosophy), who will provide an introduction to Effective Altruism, a movement started by Princeton philosopher Peter Singer. Effective Altruism combines compassion with reason to help you decide how you can do the most good. Mindy and Kevin will provide the numbers behind the outreach efforts - they'll look at how many lives are saved by various interventions, charities, and career paths. By comparing the effectiveness of many different forms of social good, they'll attempt to help those interested in technology answer the essential question: "How can I make the greatest difference?"
Type: ENTREPRENEURSHIP, LEADERSHIP, ETHICS, CIVIC ENGAGEMENT/SOCIAL ACTION, LECTURE/TALK, TECHNOLOGY, and FREE FOOD AND BEVERAGES
