She is a Duke Professor of Biology; founder of her own seed genetics company, Sun Dance Genetics LLC; and leading advocate for changing the way we grow one of the world's most contested crops. On October 24th, Mary will speak about the different types of and uses for corn, and corn's importance in the global food system. With one of her test sites in the background at the Duke Campus Farm, Mary will also share her own work breeding organic hybrid corn and promoting genetic diversity.Mary's work sits at the intersection of global health, business ethics, sustainable agriculture, consumer politics, and more. She will even tell us how her research could improve food security in places like South Sudan, where farmers have successfully grown Mary's corn in recent years due to a collaboration between Mary and Duke's Divinity School.
