We've all seen the ads and millions of us have spit in a tube in order to uncover our pasts. Genetic ancestry testing has become a popular - and sometimes controversial - tool for individuals to learn more about their genealogical history, geographic origins, and population affiliations. What exactly have we gotten for our saliva and our money? This conversation will explore some of the scientific, ethical, and social implications of genetic ancestry testing.

Charmaine Royal is Associate Professor of African & African American Studies, Biology, and Family Medicine & Community Health at Duke University.

Admission is $5. All ticket sales go toward supporting the program. Attendees may secure advanced tickets to guarantee seating for the event; preferred seating will be reserved.
