Duke Symphony Orchestra: Music for the Season with April Martin, soprano & Don Eagle, trumpet

PROGRAM: Fanny Hensel-Mendelssohn: Overture in C Major, Alessandro Scarlatti: "Cantata Pastorale per la Nativita," J.S. Bach: Cantata No. 51: "Jauchzet Gott in allen Landen," Vaughan Williams: Symphony No. 5 in D Major. April Martin joined the Virginia Opera as an Emerging Artist for the 2017-2018 season. Her roles include Norina (Don Pasquale) with the Bar Harbor Music Festival in Maine, Dew Fairy (Hänsel und Gretel), Barbarina (Le nozze di Figaro) Kitty Hart (Dead Man Walking) and Edith (The Pirates of Penzance) as a Resident Artist with the Lyric Opera of Kansas City. She has also sung with the Aspen Music Festival, Central City Opera, Finger Lakes Opera, the Bar Harbor Music Festival, and the Castleton Music Festival. Equally engaging in concert, Ms. Martin has joined the Cleveland Orchestra, the Kansas City Symphony and the Mendelssohn Glee Club of NYC on programs and gala events. Don Eagle teaches trumpet at Duke University and has appeared as soloist with the North Carolina Chamber Players, the Raleigh Symphony, the Raleigh Civic Symphony, the North Carolina Bach Festival, the Elon University Chamber Orchestra, the North Carolina State University Band, and the Triangle Brass Band, among others. Harry Davidson is music director of the Duke Symphony Orchestra.
