Careers in Public Health Law
Gene Matthews is the Director of the Southeastern Regional Center of the Network for Public Health Law; Senior Fellow at the North Carolina Institute for Public Health at the University of North Carolina Gillings School of Global Public Health and served for 25 years as the Chief Legal Advisor in the Office of General Counsel at the CDC. Professor Matthews is interested in politics with a little p, and how legal advocates can develop richer messages that reach broader audiences. He will discuss strategies for legal advocacy, using examples from public health, on how to shape messages to the intuitive values that resonate with both liberals and conservatives. Professor Matthews will also discuss using social media for advocacy and the role of millennials as messengers in our turbulent political environment. Sponsored by the Duke Health Law Society and the Margolis Center for Health Policy. For more information, please contact Jami King at firstname.lastname@example.org.
