Join Duke Musicology alumni Candace Bailey (Ph.D. 1992) and Giuseppe Gerbino (Ph.D. 2001), National Humanities Center Fellows 2019-2020, as they discuss their research. Candace Bailey is Professor of Music at North Carolina Central University. Her NHC project is the monograph "Women, Music, and the Performance of Culture in the Mid-Nineteenth Century South." Among her many fellowships and grants, Professor Bailey was a 2016-17 Fellow in the Franklin Humanities Institute's Digital Humanities Lab at Duke. Giuseppe Gerbino is Professor of Music at Columbia University. His NHC project is "Music and Mind in Renaissance Italy" (Birkelund Fellowship). His book, "Music and the Myth of Arcadia in Renaissance Italy" (Cambridge, 2009), won the 2010 Lewis Lockwood Award from the American Musicological Society. A reception will follow the talk.
