Prof. Molly Worthen

American universities proudly declare their commitment to free and open inquiry. But are they really succeeding? In recent years, the debate over intellectual diversity in the classroom has escalated, with professors, politicians, and outside donors all jockeying for influence over the political ideas students encounter on campus. In this talk, Worthen will discuss her research on national trends on this front of the culture war, as well as her own experience at UNC-and suggest some new ways to think about the goal of intellectual diversity in a polarized age.
