Women in IT: No Lines for the Loo

Cathy Hubbs, presenter
Wednesday, October 11, 2017
2:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Cathy Hubbs, Chief Information Security Officer - American University
Women in IT

In 1984, women represented 37% of computer science graduates, according to Girls Who Code. Today, women make up just 18% of those graduates. By 2020, there will be 1.4 million computer specialist job openings in America, but US universities are only expected to produce enough qualified graduates to fill 29% of those openings, according to the US Department of Labor. The future is ripe for women interested in careers in tech. Please join Cathy Hubbs, Chief Information Security Officer at American University, as she shares her story. According to the 2017 Global Information Security Workforce Study, women comprise only 11% of the information security workforce. Cathy will talk about cybersecurity today (including the recent Equifax breach) and identify barriers and opportunities faced by women in IT security. Register online: http://training.oit.duke.edu/reg Walk-ins will be welcome if seating is available. NOTE: This event is open to the public.
