Ciompi Presents: Special Affects

The third concert of the Ciompi Presents 2022 Summer Chamber Music Series features Caroline Stinson (baroque cello) with Nurit Pacht (baroque violin), Emi Ferguson (baroque flute), Stephanie Vial (baroque cello) and Paolo Bordignon, (harpsichord). The program, performed on period instruments, includes sonatas by Bach, Couperin and Veracini, and Telemann's Paris Quartet.

Caroline Stinson is cellist with the Ciompi String Quartet and Associate Professor of the Practice at Duke University. She performs widely as a soloist, recitalist and chamber musician, appearing at Zankel Hall (Carnegie), The Gardner Museum (Boston) and The Smithsonian (DC); the Koelner Philharmonie, Lucerne Festival and Cité de la Musique in Europe, and the Centennial Centre in Canada.

Emi Ferguson's unique approach to the flute can be heard in performances that alternate between the Silver Flute, Historical Flutes, and Auxilary Flutes. As a historical Flutist, she is Principal Flute of the Handel and Haydn Society, and is a frequent guest artist with period ensembles including Tafelmusik. She is on the faculty of the Juilliard School.

Critically acclaimed modern and baroque violinist Nurit Pacht was a top prize winner in the Irving Klein International Music Competition, the Tibor Varga International Violin Competition, and the Kingsville International Music Competition. In the Spring of 2022, she joined the faculty of Mount Holyoke College as a visiting professor.

Stephanie Vial has given solo and chamber music concerts, lectures, and master classes at numerous universities including The University of Virginia, Duke, and The Curtis Institute of Music. She is co-director of the period instrument ensemble The Vivaldi Project.

Paolo Bordignon is harpsichordist of the New York Philharmonic and has appeared with Camerata Pacifica, Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival & Lincoln Center's Mostly Mozart Festival Orchestra.
