Duke New Music Ensemble [dnme] -- Jamie Keesecker, director--welcomes guest artists Duo Amantis (Tara Schwab, flute & Michael Kudirka, guitar). Program: Jeffrey Holmes: Nastrond; Toru Takemitsu: Toward the Sea & Masque, for two flutes; Miroslav Tadic: Four Macedonian Pieces; Stephen Jaffe: Spinoff; David Kirkland Garner: Problem#Next. Duo Amantis is a ground-breaking, virtuoso flute and guitar chamber music ensemble that specializes in music of the 20th & 21st centuries, new works created in collaboration with living composers, and breathtaking arrangements of masterpieces from the Western canon. Founded in 2006 at the California Institute of the Arts, Duo Amantis is known for its bold programming of serious chamber music for this often overlooked combination of instruments. Tara Schwab is Principle Flute with the Central Wisconsin Symphony Orchestra and has appeared with the CalArts New Century Players, the Traverse Symphony, the Mid-Atlantic Symphony Orchestra, the Eugene Symphony, and the UNC Symphony Orchestra. She is Assistant Professor of Flute at the University of Wisconsin - Stevens Point. Michael Kudirka is a dual-specialist in classical guitar and lute. He has performed internationally throughout Europe, Asia, and North America. He has won grants and awards from the Theodor Presser Foundation, the California Arts Council, and the American Composer's Forum. He is Assistant Professor of Guitar at theUniversity of North Carolina School of the Arts.
