Please join attorney Daryl Atkinson, staff attorney for the Southern Coalition for Social Justice, as he discusses the alarming conviction rate for drug offenses in North Carolina and how the collateral consequences of these convictions can last a lifetime. While many are aware of the troubling racial disparity in drug convictions, the often extreme consequences of these convictions - including automatic exclusion from many professions, loss of voting rights, and denial of federal student loan funding, as a few examples - are often overlooked.
