The War on Sex Workers
Sex work has long been a flashpoint for feminists, as well as a blind spot. As feminists have rallied to challenge the war on women, how have they failed to identify the war on sex workers? Writer and former sex worker Melissa Gira Grant (postwhoreamerica.com) looks at the history of sex workers organizing for their rights, and imagines what feminist solidarity with sex workers could look like. Melissa is a contributor to TheNation.com, Wired.com, the Guardian, Slate, and Jezebel, among others, and her essays have been selected for inclusion in the annual anthology Best Sex Writing. This free public event is co-sponsored by Sallie Bingham Center for Women's History and Culture.
