Rare Music concert: Music for Brass

Barry Bauguess, keyed trumpet & cornet; John O'Brien, fortepiano & piano; and Leah Peroutka, violin, perform late 18th & early 19th century music by Hummel, Mozart, and Brandt. Barry Bauguess is one of North America's most sought-after Baroque trumpet sololists and is Principal Trumpet of Apollo's Fire, Atlanta Baroque Orchestra, The Magnolia Baroque Festival, Indianapolis Baroque Orchestra, and Opera Lafayette. He frequently appears as a guest artist with many of today's finest period instrument ensembles including Chatham Baroque, The Folger Consort, Tempesta di Mare, The Washington Bach Consort, American Bach Soloists, Tafelmusik, and was a member of Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra from 1987 to 1999. John O'Brien has been on the faculty of East Carolina University since 1985. As harpsichordist he performs regularly with Atlanta Baroque and Clarino Consort, and has been a featured artist at Magnolia Baroque Festival in Winston-Salem NC and the Piccolo Spoleto Festival with Chatham Baroque. Leah Peroutka is on the faculty at UNC-Chapel Hill. As a Baroque violinist, she has been a member of the UNC Baroque Ensemble under the direction of Brent Wissick and the Case/CIM Baroque ensemble under the direction of Julie Andrijeski. She has participated in masterclasses with the Academy of Ancient Music, Jordi Savall, Quicksilver, and members of Apollo's Fire, among others. She is a founding member of GEM Baroque, based in Greensboro, NC.
