"Mediocrity" or "sublimity"? The role of probability in physics.
The Deutsch-Wallace Theorem (DWT) in quantum mechanics has been described as a philosophical sensation, in its purported clarification of the role of probability within the Everettian version of quantum mechanics. But its authors do not agree about its philosophical significance, and the disagreement hinges on what is meant by probability in physics in the first place. In this talk I will run through what I take to be the issues involved, and briefly address their bearing on the DWT, in a manner accessible to the uninitiated.
