Cristy Road Carrera: Lehman-Brady Presentation

Artist, writer, and musician Cristy Road Carrera (aka Cristy C. Road) will give a presentation to the public as the Spring 2018 Lehman Brady Professor (a visiting joint chair professorship in Documentary Studies and American Studies at Duke and UNC-Chapel Hill administered by the Center for Documentary Studies).

The event will include a reading by Carrera from her book "Next World Tarot," described as a "post-apocalyptic reclamation of ancestry and magic," a presentation by Student Action with Farmworkers (SAF), and music by Choked Up, a Latinx pop-punk band fronted by Carrera that the band describes as a Latinx telenovela, with songs about reclaiming the body from trauma. SAF is a local nonprofit that works with farmworkers, students, and advocates in the Southeast and nationwide to create a more just agricultural system.
