Data Dialogue: Office of Information Technology/Data+ Demo

Two undergraduate teams will discuss their efforts towards data-driven app development with OIT professionals this past summer.
Teresa Mao, Jane Li, Qingyang Xu worked on ParkDuke, a mobile app for the Duke Community that helps users find available parking on campus, manage their parking permits and receive timely parking notifications. The app was conceived and developed during a 10 week summer Code+ internship by 6 Duke undergraduates this past summer.
Alec Ashforth, Vincent Liu, Brooke Keene, and Dezmanique Martin will describe how they worked to develop an "e-advisor" app that recommends co-curricular programs to Duke students. Their algorithm incorporates students' past involvement and tag-words for each program through a hybrid combination of content-based and collaborative filtering. This was part of Data+, in close collaboration with OIT staff.
