Data Dialogue

This talk will describe the work of the Big Data for Reproductive Health (bd4rh) team which started with a Data+ project and is ongoing through Bass Connections.
During Data+ 2018, the team built a website that hosts 4 R Shiny apps that allow users to interactively explore contraceptive use trends from the Demographic and Health Surveys (DHS). Alex Pavluck, Senior Manager of ICT at RTI, provided technical assistance around the design and development of the tool including pain point analysis, stakeholder/user mapping, and creating and following through on systems requirements.
The Bass Connections team has two sub-teams. One is working on stakeholder engagement around the tools with Triangle-based and international tool users. The other team is taking the DHS data and modeling contraceptive discontinuation using unsupervised and supervised learning techniques. We will discuss early results from this process and solicit feedback on our approach.
