Corinne Schneider
Arts and Cultural Citizenship Initiative

Musicologist and producer at Radio France, Corinne Schneider presents a
few examples of 19th-21st-century Western composers who were motivated by a desire of travel. These voyages left profound traces on their lives and on their art, in the form of oeuvres-témoins (works that bear witness). Out of a will to convey lived experience or simply to remember, they made notes, recorded, and composed. How did they understand the music of other traditions, and what did they make of it? Listening to and analyzing their works remains today the way to reconstruct these musical journeys and the cultural transfers to which they bear witness.

This event is part of the Arts and Cultural Citizenship Initiative co-sponsored by the Cultural Services of the French Embassy, the Center for French and Francophone Studies, the Office of the Dean of the Humanities, Romance Studies, the Department of Music, the Forum for Scholars and Publics, and the Francophone Humanities Institute as part of its World Arts
Series.
