What is Grand Strategy? A discussion about Rethinking American Grand Strategy

Professor Simon Miles will welcome Professors Andrew Preston and Christopher Nichols to discuss the rethinking of American grand strategy as detailed in their new book.

Christopher McKnight Nichols is an American historian. He is the Associate Professor of History in the School of History, Philosophy, and Religion at Oregon State University. Nichols founded the OSU Citizenship and Crisis Initiative in 2013 and has been Director of the Center for the Humanities at Oregon State since 2017.

Andrew Preston specializes in the history of American foreign relations. His teaching and research interests lie in three main areas: the ideas and concepts that motivate and shape America's behavior in the world at both the elite and popular levels; the mechanics of foreign policymaking in Washington; and the intersections between the national and the international, the foreign and the domestic, including the influence of domestic politics and culture-particularly religion-on the conduct of U.S. foreign policy.
