Naturalist Class: Life Underground (ages 7-9)

A handful of soil and worms.
Monday, February 26, 2018
10:30 am - 12:00 pm

Join other homeschool students at Duke Gardens in a small group setting with classes designed to maximize exploration in nature. Learn methods scientists use to safely catch and study living things in different habitats. We'll use a range of techniques in each class, depending on the area we're investigating and the animals we're expecting to find, and we'll submit our findings to a citizen science database. In this Life Underground section, you'll dig into the dirt and uncover the complex communities living below your feet. Wiggle with worms, tunnel with moles and connect with roots and mycelia. Learn how these out-of-sight living things help to create soil. Additional Naturalist Class sections: March 19, April 16 and May 14. Please also see the Naturalist Class opportunities for ages 5-6. Location: Meet at the Doris Duke Center. Parking: Parking pass included with advance registration. Information/registration: 919-668-1707 or gardenseducation@duke.edu.
