Join us for a special DEMAN Weekend-ish event, featuring Duke alumni writers from the award-winning comedy shows "black-ish" and "grown-ish"! We are thrilled to host this event the night of the Season 7 premiere of 'black-ish". Meet the Duke alumni writers who will take us behind the scenes of the creative process, explore cultural themes and share their career paths, as well as answer your questions. Moderated by Mark Anthony Neal, the James B. Duke Distinguished Professor of African and African American Studies. Introduction by John Brown, Vice Provost for the Arts.
ABC's Emmy® and Golden Globe®-nominated comedy series "black-ish" takes a fun yet bold look at one man's determination to establish a sense of cultural identity for his family (Season 7 premieres tonight, Wednesday, October 21, 2020 at 9:30pm EST). A spinoff from "black-ish" creator, Kenya Barris, "grown-ish" follows the Johnsons' eldest daughter, Zoey, as she heads off to college and quickly discovers that not everything goes her way once she leaves the nest. It's a contemporary take on the issues facing students and administrators in the world of higher education (Season 4 premieres 2021).
