"Who Could Understand the Plight of a Black Man?"

Join us Tuesday, Dec. 8 from 12:30-2:00 p.m. in Zoom for a screening of, not one, but two video versions of Trina Rodriguez's poem "Who Could Understand the Plight of a Black Man?" Video produced by Brandon Johnson. Both are our colleagues in the Office of Information Technology. Each version is approximately 4 minutes long. Following the screenings we will have an audience talkback and interactive workshop with Trina and Brandon. We will talk about the creative process and life experiences they each offered to the production.

Their experience is a lesson we all can take to better support and take care of our Black colleagues. This will be an interactive session. We will spend time in large group, small group and individual reflections. Show your support to Trina, Brandon and our Black colleagues by participating in this meaningful experience.

What Brandon and Trina discovered in their process was two different approaches; two different perspectives. Not one video held the piece fully. Trina and Brandon vividly capture the unique love and respect Black men need along with the deep pain they endure. The piece is captivating. It illuminates the strengths and pressures Black men have to withstand in our racially oppressive culture. This poem calls us to action.
