Obstacles and a Pathway to Evidence-based Personalized Psychotherapy Options for Military-related PTSD

Dr. Litz, Clinical Psychologist and Professor in the Departments of Psychiatry & Psychology at Boston University. He has been conducting clinical research on PTSD among active-duty service members and war Veterans since the start of his career at the Boston VA (1987). Dr. Litz is recognized as an expert on the assessment and treatment of war-related PTSD, and PI on various research projects funded by the DOD and VA. He was at the National Center for PTSD as Associate Director for Training in the Behavioral Science Division from its inception until 2008. He is now Director of the Mental Health Core of the MA Veterans Epidemiological Research & Information Center at the VA Boston Healthcare System and the Director of the Assessment Core of the STRONG STAR clinical trials in PTSD Consortium and the Consortium to Alleviate PTSD. Dr. Litz's recent work entails evaluating the social, psychological, and spiritual impact of the Iraq & Afghanistan wars among active-duty military personnel and veterans, conducting clinical trials of psychotherapy (Adaptive Disclosure), individualizing PTSD treatment treating danger, loss, and moral injury traumas differently. He formed/leads an international consortium to develop a gold standard measure of moral injury (Moral Injury Outcome Scale consortium). Dr. Litz is collaborating to create a Measurement-based Care Outcome Dashboard for VA PTSD clinics.
