Careers in Higher Ed: A Dean's Perspective [Registration required]
Deans can serve in a variety of roles across a university or college. Some focus on leadership, strategy, and academic administration full-time while others balance these duties with the research and teaching responsibilities of the faculty. During this discussion, Michele Rasmussen, PhD will talk with graduate students and postdocs about her career path. She will provide insights on different types of academic institutions and academic careers. Participants will be able to guide the discussion and receive advice on how they can prepare for careers in higher ed.
Michele Rasmussen, PhD '13 (Biological Anthropology & Anatomy) is the Dean of Students for the University of Chicago where works with senior leaders across the University to develop and promote opportunities for students' intellectual, professional, and personal growth and to provide co-curricular support as students pursue their programs of study and prepare for post-graduate life. Previously, she was the Dean of the Undergraduate College at Bryn Mawr College and before that she was an academic dean in Duke University's Trinity College of Arts & Sciences and directed the Academic Advising Center.
