Hereditary prostate cancer: from gene discovery to clinical implementation
Kathleen A. Cooney, M.D., is Chair of the Duke Department of Medicine in Durham, North Carolina. Dr. Cooney is a medical oncologist focused in caring for men with prostate cancer, and is internationally known for her investigations focused on the genetic epidemiology of prostate cancer.
She received her MD from the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine in Philadelphia, and completed her training in Internal Medicine and Hematology/Oncology at the University of Michigan. She previously served as chair of Internal Medicine at the University of Utah; before that, she served for nearly 10 years as the division chief of Hematology/Oncology and deputy director of the Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of Michigan. She was recruited to Duke University in 2018 where she continues to train and mentor many clinical and laboratory trainees as well as faculty.
