AI Aspirations, Healthcare Futures
Eric Horvitz is a technical fellow and director of Microsoft Research Labs. He pursues research on principles and applications of AI, including efforts in machine learning, inference, planning, and human-AI interaction. He received the Feigenbaum Prize and Allen Newell Award for contributions to AI. His efforts and collaborations have led to fielded systems in healthcare, transportation, ecommerce, and operating systems. He currently serves on the Board of Regents of the National Library of Medicine (NLM) and the Computer Science and Telecommunications Board (CSTB). He has served as president of the Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AAAI), on NSF's CISE Advisory Committee, and on DARPA's ISAT Study Group. He has been elected fellow of the National Academy of Engineering (NAE), American College of Medical Informatics (ACMI), and AAAI. He earned his MD and PhD at Stanford University.
