Duke Neurobiology welcomes Dr. Oscar Marin, Professor of Neuroscience and Director of the MRC Centre for Neurodevelopmental Disorders at King's College London, to give his talk "Diversity and plasticity in the assembly of cortical inhibitory circuits."
Abstract: In the adult neocortex, approximately one in five neurons are inhibitory gamma-aminobutyric acid-containing (GABAergic) interneurons. Interneurons play crucial roles in the regulation of neural circuits in the cerebral cortex, yet the cellular and molecular determinants underlying the diversity and integration into different cortical circuits during development remain largely unknown. In this talk, I will provide an overview of our current work of the mechanisms controlling the diversity of GABAergic interneurons, the control of their ultimate numbers, and their assembly into specific circuits in the cerebral cortex.
