Duke Physics Colloquium: Quantum Error Correction

Sponsor(s): Physics
"Quantum Error Correction" - Quantum systems lose coherence due to imperfections in controls and unwanted interactions with the environment. Quantum error correction is an algorithmic method for preserving the coherence of a subspace of a larger quantum system. In this talk, I will describe the basic principles of quantum error correction, the challenge of making quantum circuits that are fault-tolerant, and new ideas for designing quantum error correction methods that do not map directly to error correction codes. Faculty host: Steffen A. Bass. Coffee and cookies will be available before the event in room 130.
