Gilbert W. Merkx will be presenting a review of the life and work of W.E.B. Du Bois that makes the case that he should be restored to the sociological canon because of his importance to sociological theory and his role as the first scientific sociologist in America.

Gilbert Merkx is Professor Emeritus of the Practice of Sociology, former Vice Provost for International Affairs, and the former director of the Duke University Center for International Studies.

This presentation is sponsored by the John Hope Franklin Center and the Duke University Center for International and Global Studies. A light lunch will be served. Parking is available in nearby Trent Rd. and Erwin Rd. parking decks. The series provides 1-hour parking vouchers to guests.
