Heather Vestal obtained her medical degree and a Masters in Health Science from the Yale School of Medicine, and completed her residency training at Massachusetts General Hospital and McLean Hospital. Following residency, she worked at McLean Hospital and Harvard Medical School from 2014 to 2019 and held numerous educational leadership roles, including Associate Program Director and then Residency Program Co-Director at MGH/McLean, as well as Psychiatry Clerkship Director at Harvard Medical School. During this time Dr. Vestal also worked clinically as a teaching attending on the Bipolar and Psychotic Disorders Unit at McLean. She is a passionate and devoted teacher of medical students and residents, and in addition to teaching about psychiatry, she loves teaching residents about how to teach. She co-founded and co-directed a Clinician Educator Track at MGH/McLean for residents interested in pursuing careers in medical education, and she has been a cherished mentor to dozens of medical students, residents, and faculty. She has been recognized for her work as an outstanding medical educator with numerous teaching awards, and was a recipient of the prestigious Rabkin Fellowship in Medical Education at Harvard Medical School. She has received national recognition for her incredible teaching and leadership in psychiatric education as a recipient of the Association for Academic Psychiatry's Early Career Development Award.
