Afro-Feminist Performance Routes: A Dialogue in Movement

This four-day "dialogue in movement" hosts five international dance artists from Africa and its Diasporas to catalyze a dialogue around creative practice, migration, and African philosophies, as they relate to and emerge from women's perspectives. Through dance workshops, artist presentations, performances, informal conversations, and a roundtable discussion, this gathering will coalesce artists, dancers, students, faculty, and local community to explore the many manners in which movement constitutes culture, embodied practice engenders place, and migration informs subjectivity and notions of belonging.

4:40pm-6:10pm: Yanique Hume Afro-Caribbean Dance Workshop | RAC
Yanique Hume holds a PhD in interdisciplinary studies from Emory University and is a lecturer in Cultural Studies at the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus (Barbados). She specializes in the multidisciplinary field of Caribbean Cultural Studies with a focus on Cuba and Haiti. Yanique is a professional dancer and choreographer who has toured extensively with several dance companies and continues to teach the scared and popular dances of the Caribbean region.

6:15pm-7:45pm: Rujeko Dumbutshena Zimbabwean Dance Workshop | RAC
Rujeko Dumbutshena is a Zimbabwean-born dancer, pedagogue, and scholar specializing in contemporary African dance.
