CEE Seminar: Probabilistic Methods for Modeling and Analysis of Structures and Infrastructure Systems
Infrastructure systems - including water, power, transportation, communications, and building systems - are critical to the functioning of society. These systems, however, are aging and subject to hazards of increasing frequency and severity. Further, these systems are complex, comprising many interconnected and interdependent components. Analyses are required to assess the risk, improve the reliability, and increase the resilience of these critical systems. In this seminar, I will present novel probabilistic methods for the modeling and analysis of these complex systems. Among the approaches I will discuss are methods to model interdependent infrastructure systems using Bayesian networks, dynamic models to assess structural risk and predict based on sensor data the evolving states of systems, and studies integrating varying data sources for infrastructure monitoring and assessment. I will discuss both theoretical developments in these areas and applications to real-world systems.
