Matters of Inscription: Reading Figures of Latinidad

Abstract LatinX
Friday, February 07, 2025
3:00 pm - 5:00 pm
Christina León

The Program in Latino/a Studies in the Global South is pleased to host a scholarly forum presenting Professor Christina León's recently published book, "Matters of Inscription: Reading Figures of Latinidad" (NYU Press).

"Matters of Inscription" explores feminist and queer inscriptions of Latindad, encompassing the intersections of materiality and semiotics in art, performance, poetry, plays, and fiction. By delving into these figural matters, Assistant Professor in the Program in Literature, Christina León highlights how writers and artists from Cuba, Puerto Rico, and Latinx New York forge material inscriptions that transcend individual lives and calls for a broader analytical perspective unmoored from biographical anchors.

We invite you to join us in the East Duke Pink Parlor on February 7, 2025 from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m., when Professor Erin Graff Zivin (Professor in the Department of Spanish and Portuguese, USC), Professor Rubén Ríos Ávila (Professor Emeritus of the Department of Spanish and Portuguese, NYU), and Professor Ren Ellis Neyra (Associate Professor in English and African American Studies, Wesleyan University) will present perspectives on Professor León's book, followed by Prof. León's response, Q&A, and discussion. The panel will be moderated by Alexis Herrera (Ph.D. candidate, Program in Literature).
