Unmasking AI: Protecting What is Human in a World of Machines
Dr. Joy Buolamwini is a poet of code who uses art and research to illuminate the social implications of artificial intelligence. As an MIT grad student, Joy was working with facial analysis software when she noticed a problem: the software didn't detect her face -- because the people who coded the algorithm hadn't taught it to identify a broad range of skin tones and facial structures. Now she is on a mission to make sure AI works for all of us. It's an eye-opening talk about the need for accountability in AI ... as algorithms take over more and more aspects of our lives.Join us after the lecture for a reception and book signing.
