Students have the flexibility and most often feel the social commitment to help communities determine and prioritize actions for social development and change. This translates into students' having critical interest to help them be successful facilitators of participatory community planning and empowerment for their own meaningful advantage and that of the public.

Dr. Yossef Ben-Meir is a sociologist and President of the High Atlas Foundation, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to sustainable development in Morocco, where he resides. He is also currently a Visiting Professor at the University of Virginia. In Morocco, he was a Peace Corps Volunteer (1993-95), Associate Peace Corps Director (1998-99), a researcher at the American Institute of Maghrib Studies (2003), and a Professor at Al Akhawayn University (2009-10).
