Emiliana Vegas will discuss her book, "Let's Change the World: How to Work within International Development Organizations to Make a Difference," in a fireside chat with Edmund Malesky, director of the Duke Center for International Development. A book for current and aspiring changemakers written by someone with a passion for the power of education who has 20 years of experience working in international development organizations, "Let's Change the World" combines insider tips, best practices and targeted advice, offering a blueprint for all of us determined to be a force for good.
Vegas is a professor of practice at the Harvard Graduate School of Education (HGSE). Her research and practice focus on improving educational opportunities in developing countries. She earned a Doctor of Education from HGSE, a Master of Public Policy from Duke University, and a bachelor's degree in communications from the Andrés Bello Catholic University in Caracas, Venezuela.
Before returning to HGSE in 2022, she co-directed the Center for Universal Education at Brookings after serving for seven years as Chief of the Education Division at the Inter-American Development Bank, where she oversaw the Bank's lending operations and technical assistance projects throughout Latin America and Caribbean countries. Before joining the IADB, she spent over 10 years at The World Bank, where she led research and operations focused on education systems in various low- and middle-income countries.
