Microbial ecology, cell-cell signaling, and implications for environmental health

Seminar speaker Jeseth Delgado Vela
Friday, August 30, 2024
12:00 pm - 1:15 pm
Jeseth Delgado Vela, PhD, Duke University
Integrated Toxicology & Environmental Health Seminar Series

Amidst growing challenges such as urban densification, climate change, aging infrastructure, and pandemics, engineers must develop an equitable, environmentally sustainable, and resilient urban water cycle. I will highlight how I study microbial interactions and communication and how studying microbial interactions within wastewater treatment systems can advance treatment. I will discuss our ongoing research trying to understand microbial signaling, both between bacterial populations and between bacteria and the viruses that infect bacteria (phage). I will also discuss how these microbial interactions can be translated to promote healthy environments.

THIS IS A HYBRID SEMINAR WITH IN-PERSON & REMOTE ATTENDANCE OPTIONS.
This seminar will be held in Field Auditorium (room 1112), Grainger Hall.
Visit the seminar website for a livestream link to tune in virtually.
Both attendance options (in person and virtual) are free and open to all.
